FAQ

What is EG?

EG is the premiere gathering of and for innovators in media, technology, entertainment and education. The conference explores our most creative enterprises, by engaging a gifted mix of people — from rising stars to living national treasures, the people who attend EG are among the most industrious and iconoclastic talents of our time.

This year at EG, Everything is Learning — and Learning is Everything. Join leading inventors, explorers, educators, entertainers, artists and entrepreneurs as we probe these frontiers.

Where is EG?

EG is held at the Monterey Conference Center, in the intimate Steinbeck Forum and in the surrounding areas of Monterey, California. The Conference Center is joined with the Monterey Marriott, where most EG'ers stay. We have arranged special rates to reserve rooms at Monterey Marriott Hotel. You can also call 1-800-266-9432 to make a room reservation.

How do I get to EG?

Monterey Regional Airport (also known as the Monterey Peninsula Airport - MRY) www.montereyairport.com/ is located just 10 minutes by taxi from the Monterey Conference Center. Monterey is a scenic drive away from San Jose Airport (SJO) www.flysanjose.com/ and San Francisco International Airport. Parking is available at the Marriott.

What should I expect from EG?

The EG7 Program schedule begins at 1:00pm, Thursday, 18 April, and ends at 6:00pm, Saturday, 20 April.

Registration begins at 11:00am on the 18th on the mezzanine of the Conference Center. It's best to arrive early so that you have enough time to settle in, explore, and mingle at the opening reception before the conference begins.

Do not cut it close. The agenda is put together like a Rubik's cube, and if you suffer a travel glitch that causes you to miss your presentation slot, you will most likely be scratched from the program. Presentations are in no way interchangeable, and it's generally not possible to rearrange the program. Besides that, things happen at EG that you'll remember for the rest of your life.

Expect ample food, drink, conversation, and inspiration.

We stress that it is important to stay until the very end of the last session, which will be at 6:00pm on Saturday, 20 April. All of our sessions and speakers are worth the experience and we recommend planning to leave Saturday evening or Sunday morning. This way you'll have enough time to stay right through the final session on Saturday and allow yourself time to decompress before beginning your journey home.

What else is there to do in the area?

You may wish to take extra time to enjoy Monterey before or after EG. Please avoid making plans during the conference. Entertainment, amusements, and impromptu gatherings occur throughout the days and into the evenings. More detailed information about the schedule will be provided at registration on Thursday.

While you are in the area, you can see:

The most beautiful aquarium in the world is here (built by Julie Packard, who spoke at EG5). Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row The gorgeous 17-Mile Drive.

Nearby, to the south is Point Lobos State Reserve. ( pointlobos.org‎ ) Not too far south on coastal CA-1 is breathtaking Big Sur ...and closer to the north is Santa Cruz with its seaside boardwalk ...a bit beyond lies A?o Nuevo (full of elephant seal moms and pups in April).

Do you offer discounts?

We have a limited number of student discounts available. Each year, a portion of the proceeds from regular registrations help subsidize a group of talented students to take part in the EG experience. Please contact Jane for more information.

Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a superb program for EG2020. However, in light of growing and legitimate concerns regarding the rapid spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) which have gutted international events of all sizes, we have made the difficult decision to put EG on hiatus until it is once again deemed safe.

We know how much each of you look forward to EG and we were looking forward to seeing old friends, and welcoming many new ones, but we do need to prioritize the health and safety of our attendees, presenters, and partners, especially those traveling from afar.

We will be in touch in due course with future plans.
